Kawsar's Story
A heart touching story, the tale of Kawsar, is a compelling example as to how far JAAGO Foundation and its employees are prepared to go to make things right for its beloved students.
The transformation of Kawsar from being a JAAGO student just like any, to an obsessed drug-addict and then back to a regular JAAGO student might not seem all that special from the outside, but the whole process was quite phenomenal to all those who had seen and experienced it.
"A boy, who is so emotional, that he keeps hurting himself in order to feel safe and loved. Someone who can love so much that he would fight for his loved one. He has written my name so many times in copies and in other places that I have never seen my name written by anyone these many times before."– This was narrated by a teacher of JAAGO who played the principal role behind the transformation of Kawsar.
Kawsar, who got admitted to JAAGO in the Reception class in 2009, stays with his mother and grandmother as his father had died a few years back. His mother works at a home as a house maid and gets a trifling salary of 2000 BDT per month. The irony is, the rent of the house that they live in is 1500 BDT per month. So, the family is left with only 500 taka to bear all the household expenses for the entire month. Kawsar and his family members got to eat only on those days when his mother can bring some food from the house that she works in. Amongst all this hardships, Kawsar was forced to mix with some of the notorious boys of his community as they made his house a hub of drug addiction. Gradually, he started taking drugs. His crazy addiction to drugs was first spotted by the school authority when his physical condition started to deteriorate and he started to miss classes regularly. Right away, the JAAGO authority started immediate treatment of Kawsar, and, at the forefront of it all was the above mentioned teacher.
This teacher was the one who first detected Kawsar's drug addiction after observing him keenly for several days. When she was absolutely certain, she decided to admit Kawsar at a mental institute hospital after consulting with his family members. This dedicated teacher took all the hassle of managing his family members, fixing the appointments with the psychiatrists, and taking him to a government hospital. She also paid the mother her salary as she was forced to stay out of work for one month. She expertly handled all the bureaucratic issues of admitting Kawsar in a female ward as the idea of letting this young kid stay alone with the male adult addicts was practically killing her. Later on, she frequently used to visit Kawsar at the hospital just like many other JAAGO employees and officers to encourage the boy and help him get cured swiftly.
After almost 2 months of rigorous treatment at the hospital, Kawsar is almost completely cured. He has been sent to visit his native village so that he can't get to mix with those boys again after being recently released from the hospital. The above mentioned caring teacher will go to kawsar's village to bring him back before the start of the next session of the JAAGO School. Everyone concerned with JAAGO Foundation is eagerly awaiting Kawsar to return to full schooling.
