Students coming to the JAAGO Foundation school two hours early and staying two hours late is an average kind of day for the JAAGO Foundation children.
Their love for their school shines through their school work and their faces everyday. However one JAAGO Foundation student proved his love beyond doubt for his school yesterday.Noyon is an 11 year old boy from our kindergarten class. Noyon like most of the JAAGO Foundation students, during his summer break went back to his village to visit his extended family. Whilst in his village Noyon’s grandmother insisted that Noyon stay in the village and attend school there. Noyons family agreed and decided that he would stay with his grandmother in his village when his family returned to Dhaka. Noyon protested but his cries fell on closed ears.
Noyon decided to take matters into his own hands and ran away from his family and village to return to Dhaka and the JAAGO Foundation school. Noyon did this alone and it certainly was not an easy trip. Noyons village is in Gorundi which is 12 hours south of Dhaka. Noyon managed to catch a bus and change onto a ferry all alone so he could get back to JAAGO.
What makes this story even more amazing is that Noyon was once one of JAAGO’s troubled students. He attend school irregularly as he preferred to play in the streets with his friends. One day one of the JAAGO Foundation volunteers found him playing in the streets and explained to him how important his education will be to his future. Noyon gradually began coming more and more regularly and now we can see that nothing will stop him from attending his school.
Noyon's story is like many others in Bangladesh, it is a story showing us the determination of an innocent child who has to truly fight for every inch of their future .Thank you Noyon for being our light, it is children like you who inspire all of us at JAAGO to achieve all that we can possibly achieve.
