Yellow Tide Splashes Bangladesh

A month of workshop's distributions and meetings finally ended when JAAGO celebrated Universal Children’s Day 2011 during the first week of November.
About 7000 volunteers celebrated JAAGO’s trademark event all over the nation. Young volunteers in yellow T shirts united in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Gazipur, Feni, Rajshahi, Naraynganj and Sylhet. Youngsters, who were mostly university and high school students, spent the day on the busy roads trying to raise awareness for our central theme this year, 'Primary Education for All'.
The campaign was supported by U.S. Embassy Dhaka, Airtel, Pizza Hut, KFC, Far East Knitting & Dying Ltd., Austan, Pepsi, Wonderland, Green World, Prescription Point, TTL, Kaharba Productions, Elite Force, Evatix and Carpet Bag.
Wazi Khan led the youngsters in the capital where they flooded the city’s highways in yellow. Hasan Toufique Imam guided the volunteers in Chittagong and Feni and Hasnain Raze led the youngsters in Rajshahi. Imran Newaz Khursid guided Sylhet and Imran Jahangir Ony was in charge of Gazipur.
These districts all celebrated Universal Children’s Day on the 3rd. Rangpur, led by Farhan Shirazi celebrated the event on the 2nd and Naraynaganj, led by Ramisa Fariha, celebrated on the 4th of November. Ashikur Rahman’s Khulna team celebrated the event on the 1st of the month.
The event was covered extensively in print and digital media in Bangladesh. A press conferance was held on the 1st at the National Press Club with four special guests; Lauren Lovelace, Director, The American Center; Nazim Farhan Choudhury, Deputy Managing Director, Adcomm Limited, Korvi Rakshand, Founder, JAAGO Foundation and Zihad Zaman, General Secretary, JAAGO Foundation.
The funds generated throughout this nationwide program will be used to facilitate more JAAGO Foundation Schools all over Bangladesh so that primary education is guaranteed for every child born in this country’s soil.
