Free Schooling
First free-of-cost school for underprivileged children in Bangladesh
why we teach
The ultimate goal of this project is to provide free of cost education of international standard to the destitute children of Bangladesh so that they can eventually extricate themselves from the clutches of poverty and make a place for themselves in the world as global citizens. JAAGO Foundation has chosen an English-medium curriculum to broaden the students’ opportunities and bring about sustainable improvement in their lives by helping them learn an international medium of communication.
about the school
This free school for impoverished children was the first project undertaken by JAAGO Foundation. In November 2007, the program started with 17 children in a small room with only a whiteboard, a marker and a little mat for the students to sit on.
Currently, JAAGO Foundation has two new branches - one in Korail and another in Tongi. this brings the total number of students to 600 All of the students of each branch are from the locality of the respective schools. The student's ages range from 4 to 15 years. Almost all of the children enrolled in the school are from families whose average daily income is below the international indicator of poverty, less than US $1. With a first rate education and degree from JAAGO Foundation these children will easily find themselves in a well paying job with a respectable identity and lead a relatively comfortable life.
